i promise, i’m alive

You may have noticed that it’s been nearly a week since my last blog post.  I’m so sorry!  I didn’t mean to drop off the face of the earth for the last 6 days but sometimes life gets in the way.  Work has been a wee bit insane lately and I opted for a spontaneous weekend getaway with some of my best girls to let loose and have a little fun.  We enjoyed some great (and not so healthy, eek!) food, wonderful conversation, and a few too many adult beverages.  It was exactly what I needed!  I haven’t forgotten about the 30 for 30 challenge so I’ll be back tomorrow to play catch up with a giant outfit post.  : )

All By Myself..

Tonight it’s just me, my little puppy girl, the newest issue of People StyleWatch (it arrived on my doorstep today!) and a cup of hot tea.  Hubby is off watching college basketball with one of the guys and I’m enjoying a quiet evening at home.  This is exactly what I needed to get myself through the mid-week hump.  Perhaps this can be my new Wednesday night ritual..

Resolution #3: Food Awareness

 

One of the things I really want to do this year is become a bit more mindful of the foods that I eat.  This is not the same as dieting and I will not be going on a diet in 2011.  For me, diets last about 2-3 weeks and then I’m right back to my old habits again.  A total waste of time.

This sort of ties into my 2nd resolution to dine at home most often so that I will feel like I have more control over what I’m eating.  At the start of the new year, I began keeping track of my food intake by writing everything down at the end of each day in a little notebook.  I have been including a rough calorie estimate as well but my goal is not to eat a particular amount of calories per day.  My goals are to become more aware of my eating patterns and to be able to hold myself accountable when my food intake gets a little out of control.   And by out of control, I mean eating everything in sight for several consecutive days.  It happens sometimes.  It happened alot in 2010.  I bought myself a couple pairs of ‘fat’ pants in the early part of the fall season and in the months since I’ve managed to fill them out quite nicely.  Wedding stress, family stress, work stress, 7 weeks of dining out due to business travel..I can think of alot of excuses for not taking care of myself as well as I should have been but after much arguing with the little voices in my head I have finally accepted full responsibility for my actions.

So, in 2011 I am going to pay a little more attention to my love/hate relationship with food.  I’m going to focus on my positive habits rather than my negative ones.  I’m going to eat what makes me feel good not just what tastes good.  I’m not going to convince myself not to eat something that’s not so good for me when I’m sure that my craving is legit (versus feeling like I want to eat something I shouldn’t out of sheer boredom or the simple fact that it’s available and therefore I must have it) and I’m not going to let the guilt get to me if I do eat something I know I probably shouldn’t.

Take that, ‘fat’ pants.  : )

Merry Christmas, everyone!  Hope you all enjoy a day filled with family, friends, food, and gifts!  We’re getting ready to head over to my mom’s house with our little puppy girl.  As you can tell, she is all ready to be Santa’s little helper today!  : )

Vacation & Getting Organized

 

We got released from work an hour and a half early today as an early Christmas present (yay!) and for the next 11 days I do not have to set foot in my office or even think about work.  It’s really a wonderful feeling.  Hubby and I really have no set plans for the next week and a half so my major focus, aside from relaxing, is going to be alot of organizing for all aspects of my life.

I’ve had a giant pile of receipts from all of my purchases throughout the past several months that has been haunting me for weeks now.  I’m a little meticulous when it comes to keeping track of the items I buy so I’m always holding onto my receipts but I hate how quickly they pile up.  Tonight, I decided it was time to start transferring some of that information into an Excel spreadsheet and I’m calling it my ‘Style File’.  It will let me keep track of the what, when, and where of my purchases, as well as my purchase price versus the item’s original retail price.  Eventually, I’d like to start sharing some outfit posts (I think, eeek!) and this will also help me have the most accurate information about what’s in my closet to share with readers.

In other news, I placed my very first order with Lands’ End Canvas tonight.  I’ve been on a hunt for a quality pair of basic black leggings for under $15.  I think these might fit the bill and while I was at it I decided to order this boyfriend sweater.  Both items had pretty good ratings/reviews and the price just couldn’t be beat.  I considered adding a pair of these slim leg corduroy pants but, unfortunately, they don’t come in petite sizes (I’m a shorty – 5′ 2″).  I used coupon code HERITAGE (pin# 2675) and received free standard shipping.

Everyday Essentials

Welcome to my blog about a little bit of this and a little bit of that (but mostly shopping).  I’ve been told by friends and family that I have a special talent for finding great deals on the items that fill my *very small* closet and dresser drawers so I thought, “why not share my finds with all of the other shopaholics in blogland?”  I’m not going to call this a fashion blog.  The last thing I think I am is fashionable.  I’m certainly not the typical size 0-2 fashion blogger (more like a petite size 8-10) and I’ll probably be posting crappy images taken with my not so smart cell phone.  Bottom line?  I’m a pretty average twentysomething female.  I have a full time job, was recently married, and I live in a 1-bedroom apartment in a small suburban town with hubs and the puppy girl.

**A little bit about my shopping habits**

I like nice things and I do pay attention to labels but, in most cases, I prefer to make a purchase when an item has been discounted by 40-50% or more.  I’m 50/50 when it comes to online shopping vs in-store shopping..each has its advantages/disadvantages.  I prefer items that are versatile.  Since I’m required to dress professionally 5 days a week and tend to wear sweats with a basic v-neck tee when I’m not working, I need to find things that will transition from the office to a night out with friends.  I love shoes!  Impulse purchases tend to happen when shoes are involved.  I’m definitely girly but I’m not a beauty product/makeup junkie.  Mornings and I don’t really get along so my routine is pretty minimal.  My sense of style is pretty basic.  I’m pretty intimidated by big patterns and bold color so I generally gravitate towards neutral colors with little embellishment.  Currently, I’m loving chunky sweaters, ruffles, platform pumps, and headbands.  Last but not least, my monthly shopping budget is $200 but I’m hoping to curb my spending to around $150 per month.  : )
