day #15: at the half-way point

Earrings & Bracelet – Lia Sophia
Top – White House Black Market
Cardigan – Ann Taylor
Pants – Express
Belt & Shoes – Banana Republic

This was not the original outfit I had planned for today but I’m glad I went with this one instead.  I have trouble styling this top so I don’t wear it often even though I really like it.  It was added to my 30 for 30 items on purpose so that I could force myself to be a little more creative than just pairing it with a basic black cardigan.  The belt was a last minute add and I think it worked out ok.

I can’t believe I have successfully made it through half of the remix challenge already!  It’s definitely starting to get harder to come up with unique outfit combinations.  The biggest lesson I’ve learned so far?  Make sure all 30 items fit properly before beginning a challenge.  You may have noticed that my brown pants and black pencil skirt have not yet made an appearance in the challenge.  Yeahhh..let’s just say I need to hit the gym stat.  So, that means I’m actually only working with 28 items right now and that certainly makes a difference when I go to get dressed in the morning.  On the bright side, the no shopping rule has been much easier to adjust to than I expected.  Or maybe knowing how much of our money will soon be gone as we get closer to closing on our house has completely scared the pants off of me and kept me away from the wonderful world of retail.  Either way, I’ll take it!

day #14: my first 30 for 30 fail

So, today has been all sorts of crazy and it started with me dumping the salad I was making for lunch all over the kitchen floor as I was getting ready for work this morning.  Not a good start to a Monday!  By the time I got home from work all I wanted to do was put my yoga pants on and relax and that means no outfit pic for today.  I promise I will re-create today’s outfit and add a photo later on.  And just in case you’re skeptical, I wore grey Express Editor pants with my hot pink GAP boyfriend sweater (totally an accident even though it’s Valentine’s Day!) and the grey suede wedges from Banana Republic that I bought last month.

Hope you all had a lovely Valentine’s Day!  Since I had to work late today, hubby and I didn’t have anything special planned but I did catch him in the act of trying to sneak a vase of beautiful red roses into my office!  Love you, hubby!!! ❤

**UPDATE 2/22/11: Finally was able to recreate this outfit and add a photo.  Enjoy!

I don’t know about you but I am NOT ready to go back to work tomorrow.  We had such a fun weekend catching up with the MIL and celebrating our favorite little Z-man’s 1st birthday!  The weekends never seem to last long enough.

Keeping it short and sweet tonight.  I didn’t get much sleep the last couple of nights thanks to a too small bed (anything less than queen size for 2 adults just doesn’t cut it) and mucho snoring courtesy of both hubby and our little puppy girl.  It’s off to bed for me!

day #11: all tucked in

Necklace – White House Black Market
Top, Belt, & Shoes – Banana Republic
Cardigan – Ann Taylor
Pants – Express

I forgot to mention yesterday that I have officially made it through 1/3 of the 30 for 30 challenge already!  YAY!  : )

Today’s outfit was a totally new look for me because, for once, I decided to tuck in my shirt.  The concept is simple enough but I’ve always hated having to fuss with my shirts to achieve the right look (does it look too tight?  too loose?  too bulky underneath?  etc.) whenever I tuck them into my pants or skirts.  I gave it another shot this morning and was later surprised at how many compliments I received about this outfit.  As the day progressed I began realizing that this look is not only much more polished, but slimming as well.

Hubby and I are taking a little road trip to MIL’s house this weekend.  We have the privilege of attending a 1st birthday party tomorrow afternoon for one of the cutest little boys I have ever known, which means I need to quickly pack my bag so we can get a move on.  I’ll be back on Sunday night to post my outfits from the weekend.  Have a lovely weekend, everyone!

day #10: lauren conrad, I heart your clothes

Earrings – White House Black Market
Dress – Lauren Conrad @Kohl’s
Sweater – Lauren Conrad @Kohl’s
Belt – J. Crew
Tights – GAP
Boots – STEVEN by Steve Madden

Today’s outfit is brought to you by the lovely and talented Lauren Conrad.  I have to admit, aside from the LC Lauren Conrad collection, I don’t often find much when I go to Kohl’s in search of new clothes.  But without fail, I always end up loving several items from each collection that she comes out with.  The pieces are good quality as well as inexpensive, and the patterns/designs are both beautiful and flattering.  You can view the new LC Lauren Conrad spring collection via this slideshow and several of the items are already available on the Kohl’s website.

day #9: cause I know them boys, they like those open toes

Sweater – LOFT
Pants – Express
Shoes – Banana Republic
Earrings – White House Black Market

Any other Katharine McPhee fans out there?  Anyone?  Anyone?  Bueller?  No?  Ok, maybe I’m the only one but I’ve loved her ever since her Idol days.  Any girl who can sing a bubblegum pop song about shoes that causes me to bust out some serious dances moves every time I hear it is a-ok in my book.

I have always thought that open-toe shoes were only appropriate for the spring and summer months but this year I’m throwing that rule out the window.  Especially when said shoes are super cute suede wedges from Banana Republic that I got a major deal on.  But before you start thinking all sorts of ‘that girl is crazy’ thoughts, I only wore these outside for photo purposes.  I wear my UGG cardy boots to/from work almost daily and always throw a pair of nicer shoes in my bag for when I get to the office.  It’s a no brainer for me during the winter.  Except for that day 2 weeks ago when I arrived at work and realized I had grabbed 2 different shoes.  No joke..and not even the same color.  Luckily, I have a drawer full of old pairs of (matching) shoes in my desk just in case.

Day #8: Gleeking Out

Sweater & Earrings – White House Black Market
Pants – Express
Boots – STEVEN by Steve Madden

Did anyone else watch Glee tonight and see the preview for next week??  Chord Overstreet is bringing Bieber fever to next Tuesday’s episode and my heart went pitter patter.  Oh em gee.  Let the countdown begin!

Today’s business trip was a colossal waste and the driving weather was terrible.  The rental car company gave me a VW Bug to drive for the day..very cute, but if you live in a state where slick roads, heavy snow, blustery wind is the norm then this car is not for you.  I had a death grip on the steering wheel for the 4+ hours I spent in the car today.  I know I’ve said it before but I am soooo over winter.
