Resolution #1: Closet Overhaul

I have been inspired by Kendi (refer to this post and this post) and by my copy of Lauren Conrad’s Style Guide (buy here) to completely overhaul my closet.  Living with hubby in a small 1-bedroom apartment means closet space is severely limited.  We have just one very small closet in our bedroom (belonging to me – see above) so I make a point of purging old and unworn items once every 2-3 months in order to have room for all of the items I wear regularly.  I’m pretty good about letting go of things that I no longer need or enjoy, but I’m starting to realize that I’m definitely missing some essentials in my closet.  For example, how do I not own a crisp, white, button up shirt when I’m required to dress professionally for work 5 days each week??  Things like this boggle my mind.

Throughout the rest of the week I’m going to pick apart all of the clothing and accessories that I currently own to decide what must have wardrobe items I’m missing.  The list of items I come up with will then become my shopping guide for 2011.  I’m hoping this will help me learn to shop smarter.  The number of items in my closet that I have never worn (many still have the tags attached) is pretty embarrassing.  I’ll be posting about my process and sharing my updated shopping list daily through Jan. 1st so check back regularly!

Inspiration: DIY Glitter Shoes

(source:  Death By Shoe)

I have a list of about a dozen or so fashion/style blogs that I follow on a daily basis and one way that I have come across some of my favorite blogs has been browsing the comments section after a post and visiting the various blogs that are linked with many reader comments.  This is exactly how I came across Death By Shoe the other day.  The blogger’s name is Danielle and she regularly posts style picks, outfits, how to projects, and ‘shoe drools’ (to which I can definitely relate).

Earlier in the month, Danielle posted a how to for sparkly shoes which you can see by clicking here.  Follow her 4 steps for turning a basic pair of cheap pumps into a stunning pair of party perfect glitter pumps.  Genius!

We’ve got a jam packed weekend coming up starting with a holiday happy hour this evening with great friends that we haven’t seen in months.  I’m looking forward to catching up with everyone and finally having a chance to see my friend Jen’s growing baby pump in person!  Then tomorrow we’re heading to the hubby’s home town for an early Christmas celebration with my in-laws.  We got our professional wedding photos just in time for the holidays and I can’t wait to share them with our family.  Have a great weekend, readers!

Inspiration: Honeysuckle for 2011

At the end of each calendar year, Pantone (a global authority on color) selects the “it” color for the upcoming new year.  The color for 2010 was turquoise, selected because of its calming effect, and the company just announced the next big color for 2011 – honeysuckle!  This is such a fabulous color to represent 2011.  It is such a rich, bold, fun hue and is certain to uplift even the biggest Debbie Downer’s mood.

Reading this article inspired me to have a little fun of my own and put together a style collage featuring clothing and accessories that are all available in a honeysuckle-ish shade.  I tried my best to include items of varying prices to satisfy different budgets and if you are interested in purchasing any of them just click on the item you’re interested in and you’ll be linked to the retailer’s website.  To learn more about Pantone, click here.
