Day #24: A special guest & a cookie fail

Sweaters – GAP, Cami – Old Navy, Pants – Express,
Shoes & Earrings – Banana Republic, Headband – J. Crew

Today my little puppy girl made her 30 for 30 debut!  She’s not possessed, I promise.  Her name is Lola and she’s the best cuddle bug in the world.  This morning she snuggled under the covers with me while hubby was in the shower and I slept for an extra half hour.  It’s part of our morning routine almost daily.

A little sidenote about today’s outfit – the cami doesn’t count as one of my 30 for 30 items since I’m wearing it more as an undergarmet.  Trust me.  I read the rules.  Again, I was going for comfort with this outfit.  And warmth.  Because we got a nice dumping of snow today.  Ick.  I’m so over winter!

It’s a Friday night and I’m feeling pretty miserable.  I wasted 3 hours of my night trying to turn this cookie recipe into a success story.  I wish I had looked it up online (I had it bookmarked in a recent copy of ‘All You’ magazine) before going to work in the kitchen.  As a few other reviewers commented, there must be some missing ingredients because my dough was a crumbly mess, the filling was a disaster, and I couldn’t get the dang nonpereils to stick.  (Yes, I am the a-hole that gave this a 1 star rating.  Created an account just so I could post my review.)  I finally just gave up and let hubby try to salvage something from the mess.  Turns out he’s got the magic in him because he was able to fix enough cookies to almost fill a ziplock sandwich bag.  Not worth having to toss the rest of the mix but I have to admit the cookies tasted pretty good once assembled.  Still, I will not be attempting this recipe again.

day #23: one more week!!!

Cardigan & Top  – Ann Taylor
Belt – Banana Republic
Pants – Express
Flats – Tory Burch
Headband – J. Crew
Earrings – Charter Club @Macy’s
Ring – Lia Sophia

Today’s outfit wasn’t one of my favorites.  I didn’t love the headband look, I probably could have left the belt behind, and I should have worn my gray suede wedges instead.  Although it’s rare, some days I just don’t feel like wearing heels and today was one of them.  I was going for comfort but I think it ended up looking a little sloppy.

It’s going to be a quiet evening in the apartment.  Hubby is already asleep in the recliner and I’ll probably start getting ready for bed soon (it’s not even 8pm yet).  Clearly, my body is telling me that I need to get some sleep but I feel like I’m not supposed to go to bed this early.  I almost feel like it’s unreasonable for a young person to want to be in bed before 9 or 10pm.  I’m 27, not 70..I should still have all sorts of energy at the end of the day!  It’s times like this when I truly realize that I’m getting older.  Not just getting older, that’s a given, but feeling older.  Can anyone else relate?

day #22: just whistle while you work

Dress & Tights – GAP
Cardigan – J. Crew
Boots – STEVEN by Steve Madden
Belt – Betsey Johnson via Ideeli
Earrings – Kenneth Cole

I bought this black ruffle dress on sale last September when I was out of town for business travel and today was the first time I’ve actually worn it.  I’ve tried it on several times between then and now but for some reason I always ended up choosing a different outfit.  Today, I was pretty pleased with how this outfit came together.

Although it’s only Wednesday, I am already beyond exhausted from my work load for this week.  Have you ever had one of those weeks when you feel like you never stop working but somehow your to-do list just keeps getting longer?  That’s how I’m feeling this week.  However, I’ve got some travel opportunities coming up in the next month which will give me a nice break from the office.  (If anyone lives in the Tampa, FL area and has suggestions for restaurants and shopping, please let me know!)

days #16-#21: playing catch up

Day #16 (top left) and Day #17 (top right)
Day #18 (middle left) and Day #19 (middle right)
Day #20 (bottom left) and Day #21 (bottom right)

As promised, I have not forgotten about the 30 for 30 challenge in my blog absence and continued to take daily photos.  I’m not posting the info for each individual piece in all of these photos but you can refer to my full list of 30 for 30 items here.

I took a day off on Sunday and lounged around in my favorite fleece pants and hoodie all day so I’m a day behind in the challenge.  Admittedly, I’m starting to really struggle with putting together an outfit every morning.  I’m starting to miss some of my other clothes that haven’t gotten any attention in the last 21 days!  So far in the challenge, I’ve put together a few new outfits that I really love and can’t wait to wear again.

So, fellow are the rest of you feeling at this point in the challenge?  This is my 1st challenge so I think it’s pretty normal that I’m starting to feel drained of creativity but I’m wondering if those of you who have participated before still feel the same.  Any tips for getting through the final stretch??  Please comment below and share any advice you have to help get me through the last 9 days!

day #15: at the half-way point

Earrings & Bracelet – Lia Sophia
Top – White House Black Market
Cardigan – Ann Taylor
Pants – Express
Belt & Shoes – Banana Republic

This was not the original outfit I had planned for today but I’m glad I went with this one instead.  I have trouble styling this top so I don’t wear it often even though I really like it.  It was added to my 30 for 30 items on purpose so that I could force myself to be a little more creative than just pairing it with a basic black cardigan.  The belt was a last minute add and I think it worked out ok.

I can’t believe I have successfully made it through half of the remix challenge already!  It’s definitely starting to get harder to come up with unique outfit combinations.  The biggest lesson I’ve learned so far?  Make sure all 30 items fit properly before beginning a challenge.  You may have noticed that my brown pants and black pencil skirt have not yet made an appearance in the challenge.  Yeahhh..let’s just say I need to hit the gym stat.  So, that means I’m actually only working with 28 items right now and that certainly makes a difference when I go to get dressed in the morning.  On the bright side, the no shopping rule has been much easier to adjust to than I expected.  Or maybe knowing how much of our money will soon be gone as we get closer to closing on our house has completely scared the pants off of me and kept me away from the wonderful world of retail.  Either way, I’ll take it!

day #14: my first 30 for 30 fail

So, today has been all sorts of crazy and it started with me dumping the salad I was making for lunch all over the kitchen floor as I was getting ready for work this morning.  Not a good start to a Monday!  By the time I got home from work all I wanted to do was put my yoga pants on and relax and that means no outfit pic for today.  I promise I will re-create today’s outfit and add a photo later on.  And just in case you’re skeptical, I wore grey Express Editor pants with my hot pink GAP boyfriend sweater (totally an accident even though it’s Valentine’s Day!) and the grey suede wedges from Banana Republic that I bought last month.

Hope you all had a lovely Valentine’s Day!  Since I had to work late today, hubby and I didn’t have anything special planned but I did catch him in the act of trying to sneak a vase of beautiful red roses into my office!  Love you, hubby!!! ❤

**UPDATE 2/22/11: Finally was able to recreate this outfit and add a photo.  Enjoy!

Day #13 (on right):
Cotton Tee – Gap

I don’t know about you but I am NOT ready to go back to work tomorrow.  We had such a fun weekend catching up with the MIL and celebrating our favorite little Z-man’s 1st birthday!  The weekends never seem to last long enough.

Keeping it short and sweet tonight.  I didn’t get much sleep the last couple of nights thanks to a too small bed (anything less than queen size for 2 adults just doesn’t cut it) and mucho snoring courtesy of both hubby and our little puppy girl.  It’s off to bed for me!
