Review: Urban Decay ‘Naked’ Palette

Urban Decay ‘Naked’ Palette @Sephora
Purchase Price = $44 (not including tax)
Original Price = $44 (the price has since increased to $48)

I am definitely not a ‘product junkie’.  Having too much makeup is overwhelming for me and my daily routine doesn’t vary much – a bit of concealer, loose mineral finishing powder, neutral eyeshadow, mascara, and just a touch of lip butter/balm.  I don’t buy makeup often, aside from re-plenishing my essentials, but when I missed the boat on this pretty palette not once but twice, I knew I had to get my name on the email list so that I would be notified when it was back in stock.  When I got that email at the beginning of the month, I didn’t hesitate for even a second before placing my order.  Sure enough, it has sold out once again but you can be notified via email when more become available by signing up here.

It’s been a couple of weeks now since I received my order and I am so happy with this purchase.  The palette was actually much larger than I had anticipated and the eyeshadows are just gorgeous.  If you are looking for an eyeshadow palette featuring neutral shades, I highly recommend this one!  I’ve been having so much fun combining the different shades to create new looks daily.  A few of the shades have a matte finish, many have a shimmery/metallic finish, and a couple have more of a glittery finish (those ones can be a little messy if you’re not careful when applying).  Although I don’t use eyeliner often, I love that this set also comes with a double ended pencil featuring black and brown shades.  And, if you haven’t already tried Urban Decay’s ‘Eye Primer Potion’ you simply must.  My skin gets a little greasy as the day wears on and this is the only primer that prevents my eyeshadow from creasing.  I use it daily and already have a full sized version so I tossed the little travel sized tube that came with the palette into the small cosmetics case I carry in my purse.

Review: Nine West ‘Nuncio’ Pump

Nine West ‘Nuncio’ Pump @Nine West
Original Price = $69.00
Purchase Price = $30.44

At the same time I ordered the taupe pumps in my previous review, I also ordered this pump in the dark natural shade to wear at work.  The color was a bit lighter than what I was originally looking for but the price was right so I couldn’t resist.

I received this pair several days after receiving the other pair from my order and once again I was faced with disappointment.  There were also several scratches and marks of discoloration on these shoes.  Needless to say, they are going to be returned as well.

I’ve always turned to Nine West when I’ve wanted a quality shoe for a reasonable price and this experience is going to make me think twice before ordering in the future.  It really makes me wonder what happens to their shoes before they’re sent out to customers.  I can’t be the only person who has had this issue since the same thing happened twice on pairs that were shipped separately.  I searched briefly but could not find just a general customer service email on the website and didn’t have a particular question that I was trying to address for their web form so I wrote a few sentences about my shopping experience on the Nine West Facebook page.  The company seems to be very active on their page and I’ve noticed that they have  addressed several questions, comments, and concerns from other users so I’m looking forward to hearing from someone shortly.

Review: Nine West ‘Booboo’ Pump

Nine West ‘Booboo’ Pump @Nine West
Original Price = $79.00
Purchase Price = $45.66

I first tried on this style in pewter when I was searching for a pair of silver pumps/sandals to wear for my rehearsal dinner back in October.  I loved that the bow detail on the side transformed these from just your average pointed-toe pump to one that is chic and girly but I didn’t end up getting them at the time because the color was just a bit darker than I was looking for.  Flash forward a couple of months and I see this little beauty on sale on the Nine West website so I decided to order it in taupe (no longer available as of today but you can order in other colors here).

When I received the order, I was very disappointed.  I still love the style but there were several scratches and marks of discoloration on the shoes so unfortunately I will be returning these.  As far as the fit is concerned, I have owned several pairs of Nine West shoes in the past and know that I can always rely on the fit being true to size and this pair was no exception.

Review: ALDO ‘Moad’ Pump

ALDO ‘Moad’ Pump @ALDO
Original Price = $60.00
Purchase Price = $30.82

One of the items on my 2011 shopping list was a pair of everyday black leather pumps that I can wear at work so when I saw that this pair was on sale I ordered right away.  This is my first pair of ALDO shoes and I am very pleased with my purchase!  In my opinion, these pumps fit true to size and are exactly what I had been looking for.  I’ve worn them to work a couple of times now and they are pretty comfortable.  Like most new shoes, they do need to be worn in a bit as they start to pinch my toes a little once I’ve had them on for several hours.  I have somewhat wide feet so a little pinching is a pretty common occurrence for me whenever I buy new shoes.  I have a feeling that once I wear these a few more times they will become one of the most comfortable pairs that I own.

If you sign up to receive emails from ALDO, you will receive a coupon code for 10% off a purchase which is what I used when I ordered these pumps.  Shipping was free at the time of my order.  This pump is also available in brown and there are still several sizes left in both colors so click here if you are interested in purchasing!

Review: Lauren Conrad Floral Dress

Lauren Conrad Floral Dress @Kohl’s
Original Price = $60.00
Purchase Price = $26.09

I have a confession.  I absolutely LOVE the Lauren Conrad collection that is exclusive to Kohl’s.  I have always loved her style and her clothing line is full of fun, girly pieces at incredibly reasonable prices.  For the past month or two, I have been checking the Kohl’s website regularly waiting for this little beauty to go on sale and when the discount finally reached 50% I jumped right on it and immediately placed my order.  On top of the sale price, I also found a coupon code for another 20% off and shipping was free.  I actually ordered it in 2 sizes because I wasn’t sure what the fit would be like and ended up going with the smaller size.  This dress does also come with a skinny, black belt as well – not the belt pictured above (which I purchased at a J. Crew outlet in late September for $7.78 + tax).  The original belt that came with this dress was too small for me to buckle and, to be honest, I think this silver one looks much better.

Since I had plans to meet some friends for happy hour after work today, I decided to dress extra nice this morning and paired this dress with a black cardigan, black tights, and black suede wedges.  I received so many compliments while wearing this dress!  Not only did I look very put together in the office today but this outfit just made me feel good and I will likely wear it often this winter.

Click the photo above if you’re interested in purchasing this dress (sizes are limited).  If you spend $50 your order qualifies for free standard shipping and use coupon code NEW133 to receive an additional 10% off!

Review: Chinese Laundry ‘Newbie’ Boot

Chinese Laundry ‘Newbie’ Boot @Endless
Original Price = $109.95
Purchase Price = $60.29

Can you tell I’m really into boots at the moment?  I ordered these on Black Friday after getting an email that Endless offering a 30% discount.  They were already on sale from the original retail price and the discount saved me another $23.76 as well as giving me the option of free overnight shipping.  It was a pretty hard deal to pass up considering I’ve been on a hunt for tall congnac boots for weeks!

Unfortunately, I ended up sending the boots back a couple of days after I received them.  The quality of the boot was not so great and the leather material was quite thin.  I noticed that several reviewers also had the same thoughts. So, the search is back on and trying to find a good quality pair for under $100 with a shaft wide enough to fit my calves is proving to be much more difficult than I originally anticipated but I think I’m up for the challenge!  : )

Review: Steven by Steve Madden ‘Intyce’ Boot

Steven by Steve Madden ‘Intyce’ Boot @Piperlime
Original Retail Price = $129
Purchase Price = $96.75

Boots are the hardest type of footwear for me to shop for.  I have very muscular calves and the circumference of most boot shafts is generally not accommodating to those of us with athletic (or perhaps just bigger) legs.  I took a chance on these boots when I saw that the circumference was approx. 15″ and that many of the reviewers said they are too loose for those with skinny legs.

I’ve worn these boots twice now and I have a feeling they are going to become my go-to boots for the winter season.  They’re easy to get on and off, not too narrow for my wide feet, and the quality of the leather is pretty decent in my opinion (some reviewers disagreed).  I love the slight wedge and have been looking for a boot like this ever since I first saw this boot a year or two ago.  A pretty decent look for less, right?  The only downside is that I can’t wear my skinny jeans under the boots.  There just isn’t enough room for that but they look great with tights and leggings.  A pair of jeggings might work but I don’t think that’s a purchase I’ll be making anytime soon.  I tried on a pair just for fun a couple of months ago and, well, let’s just say they were not at all flattering on my body type.

I ordered the boots from one of my favorite shoe websites, Piperlime.  You just can’t beat the websites that offer free shipping AND free returns.  I actually ended up ordering this same pair twice.  For the first order, I used a coupon code for 10% Tuesdays since I am a GAP cardholder but a couple of weeks later there was a new promotion for 25% off boots which would have saved me another $20 or so.  Since I hadn’t yet worn the first pair (and I couldn’t get a simple price adjustment), I sent them back and reordered the same pair a second time.  Luckily, they still had my size in stock!

What are some of your favorite boot styles for this fall/winter??  Post your comments below!  : )
